Since the spread of smartphones, the internet has become closely intertwined with our daily lives, blurring the boundaries between reality and virtuality. Against this backdrop, Saiki attempts to fix the vast circulation of images as paintings.
This work, through a structure in which the viewer's own image is reflected on the screen, interposes self-awareness into the act of viewing itself. It questions how we perceive events such as disasters, wars, and conflicts occurring in distant lands, while also visualizing the distance between the information we routinely encounter and reality. Furthermore, it suggests that our lives are continuous with the world.
