ki/u #133
This work is exhibited at the group exhibition "Beyond Words, Outside Meaning," which explores how we usually understand and perceive the world, starting from words and letters. In this exhibition, the relationship between words and images is re-examined through expressions that move back and forth between seeing and reading, form and meaning. Yoichiro Otani finds new connections between the form, sound, and meaning of kanji characters and creates visual poems using them. The kanji characters accumulated on the screen, while being symbols that convey meaning, transform into images that evoke landscapes and the presence of nature, drawing out the wavering that arises between seeing and reading.
