ki/u #134
This work is featured in "Beyond Words, Outside Meaning," a three-person exhibition that explores how we typically understand and perceive the world, starting from words and letters. This exhibition re-examines the relationship between words and images through expressions that oscillate between seeing and reading, form and meaning. Yoichiro Otani creates visual poetry using characters, finding new connections between the form, sound, and meaning of kanji. The kanji accumulated on the screen, while serving as symbols that convey meaning, transform into images that evoke landscapes and the presence of nature, drawing out the fluctuation that arises between seeing and reading.
