Souya Handa Project × YUGEN Gallery Joint Exhibition "Literature in Dots" [Tokyo]
2025.05.16(Fri) – 2025.06.01(Sun)
The exhibition attempts to transcend fields by using printmaking's multiple aspects due to printing (copying) and its elements of both painting and design, and by using these elements as the starting point for images.
In the process and practice of creating his works, he reconsiders the relationship in which humans and nature coexist side by side, as seen in the Seto Inland Sea seascape, which is his childhood landscape, and attempts to visualize this using the industrial aspects of printmaking and reproduction techniques, as well as the visual differences that arise from each material.
He has also presented numerous two-dimensional and three-dimensional works and installations both in Japan and overseas that challenge the viewer's sense of scale, from small virtual cities likened to dioramas that give the viewer a macroscopic perspective, to microscopic experiences using exhibition methods that occupy the entire space.
His major solo and group exhibitions include "RE: habilitation" (Geidai Art Plaza/Tokyo/2024), "satellite" (Tsukuba Expo Center/Ibaraki/2023), "What Narrows This Planet" (gallery neo_/shenshu/Ibaraki/2023), "Experiment Ⅳ" (DiEGO/Tokyo/2021), "The point of truth, beauty and knowledge" (Künstlerhaus Dortmund/Germany/2022), and "Expanding the Unexplored Territory: we land, turn, float...over?" (EUKARYOTE/Tokyo/2022). His major awards include being the recipient of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Overseas Trainee Program for Emerging Artists in 2021.
