Taiko Matsuo
Artist and illustrator. Born in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture. Graduated from Hiroshima Jogakuin University Junior College. After working for an automobile manufacturer for about 10 years, moved to Tokyo at the age of 32. After attending Setsu Mode Seminar, debuted as an illustrator in 1998. Has illustrated magazines and advertisements, and has illustrated over 300 books. Has written many books related to shrines, including the illustrated essay "Izumo IZUMO: A Guide to Happiness" (Shogakukan) and "100 Illustrated Guide to the Loose Gods of the Kojiki" (Kodansha). Awards include the 16th The Choice Annual Award, Suzuki Seiichi Prize (1998). Art direction for the exhibition "Bhutan: Hints for Living a Happy Life" at the Ueno Royal Museum (2016). Currently active in three locations: Tokyo, Karuizawa, and Fukui. His latest work includes "Know Yourself and Open Your Future: Numerology Oracle Cards Mini" (written by Hazuki Nijie, illustrated by Matsuo Taiko, published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha).
