Although a single form is created in a matter of seconds, it is backed by repeated practice. The accumulation of instantaneous operations leads to the maturation of technique, which then manifests as precision in the form.
Kaneko Tsukasa / Ceramic Artist.
Born in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1970. Based in Hagi City, he creates Hagi ware pieces with mushroom motifs using traditional techniques such as suminagashi (marbling). He has worked internationally, including a residency at the Carlo Zauli Museum (Italy) in 2009, "Mushroom Art Laboratory Exhibition" at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2010, and "Kusabira Kusagusa - Tsukasa Kaneko Ceramic Exhibition" at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Hagi Uragami Museum in 2019.
While based on Hagi ware techniques, his work reconfigures them into approachable forms. His adorable shapes reflect a Japanese perspective on nature, presented in a contemporary style.
Yukiko Kurano: Born 1979 in Kumamoto City.
Graduated from Kumamoto University, Faculty of Education, Junior High School Teacher Training Course (Art Specialization) in 2002. Completed the Master's Program in Art at the University of Tsukuba Graduate School in 2004.
Her work explores the seemingly still, yet constantly growing and subtly moving forms of plants, their roots spreading and branches extending. It also captures the slowly but ceaselessly changing landscapes of the sky and sea.
She also depicts the microscopic scenes within the human body, suggesting the countless cells teeming with life even when seemingly still. Her artistic process involves using brushstrokes to trace the dynamic movements inherent in these forms, even within their stillness.

She continuously produces "Mokemokemono," imaginary creatures, and presents installations and photographic works using them. In recent years, she has actively participated in artist-in-residence programs both in Japan and abroad. In 2023, she will train in Germany as an overseas researcher for the Pola Art Foundation. Her major exhibitions include the solo exhibition "Blooming" (Isetan Shinjuku Store Main Building 6F Gallery, Tokyo/2023) and the "Pola Museum Annex Exhibition - Boundaries of Existence -" (Pola Museum Annex Museum, Tokyo/2026).
