Utsuro #1

In conjunction with YUGEN Gallery's participation in "IWATAYA Life with Art 2026," this piece is presented as part of a collaborative project with the three-person exhibition currently held at YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA, titled "After Words, Outside Meaning." It focuses on how the forms and meanings of characters alter the perception of objects and light, exploring a new relationship between language and imagery.

Yoichiro Otani discovers new connections between the forms, sounds, and meanings of kanji to create visual poetry through text. While the kanji accumulated on the canvas remain symbols that convey meaning, they transform into images reminiscent of landscapes or the presence of nature, evoking the fluctuations that arise between seeing and reading.
