Yoichiro Otani

An exhibit from "Beyond Words, Outside Meaning," a three-person exhibition exploring how we ordinarily understand and perceive the world, taking words and text as a starting point. This exhibition re-examines the relationship between language and images through expressions that move back and forth between seeing and reading, form and meaning. Yoichiro Otani finds new connections between the form, sound, and meaning of kanji characters, creating visual poetry through text. The kanji accumulated on the screen, while being symbols that convey meaning, transform into images that evoke landscapes and the presence of nature, drawing out the fluctuation that arises between seeing and reading.
