Moving wood

Hisashi Yamamoto

This work is featured in "Beyond Words, Outside Meanings," a three-person exhibition that explores how we typically understand and perceive the world, using words and text as a starting point. This exhibition re-examines the relationship between words and images through expressions that move between seeing and reading, form and meaning. Based on calligraphy, Hisashi Yamamoto engages in a conceptual practice of "writing the name of an object on the object itself." By superimposing the object and the characters that represent its name in the same place, he creates a moment where "seeing" and "reading" intersect, questioning the mechanism of recognition through language.
