Artist SAORI KANDA, who is represented by the contemporary art gallery "YUGEN Gallery" (Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo; operated by Gene Co., Ltd.), will perform a dance painting performance at Sakurai Shrine in Itoshima, Fukuoka, a nationally designated important cultural property, on Sunday, September 22, 2024 (the autumnal equinox) .
Saori Kanda is a contemporary artist whose work focuses on the theme of "liberating the joy of the soul." As an "odori-e artist" who combines dance and painting, she has been performing at ceremonies and art festivals around the world, and continues to receive praise from around the world.
Sakurai Shrine, located in the northern part of the Itoshima Peninsula, was built in the early Edo period by Kuroda Tadayuki, the second feudal lord of the Fukuoka domain. Sakurai Shrine, which has a long history of over 400 years, will be designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 2023 and retains its magnificent appearance from that time.
The theme that has emerged for SAORI KANDA since around 2022 is "Harmony of the Dragon and the Goddess." The dragon is a symbol of masculinity (power of action, power to materialize), and the goddess is a symbol of femininity (sensitivity, tolerance), and we believe that every human being is endowed with these two poles at birth. The message is that by awakening and harmonizing the two within oneself, one can regain one's original vital energy and live on.
