With the advent of smartphones, the internet has become inseparable from daily life, and the sensation of reality and the net intertwining has become commonplace. Saiki attempts to record and preserve the vast number of images generated and consumed within this visual environment as paintings.
This work was created based on the scene of a road collapse that occurred in Imaizumi, Fukuoka last year. The artist himself visited the site, but the hole was repaired in just one day, and everyday life had returned as if nothing had happened. Behind this lies issues such as the limitations of postwar infrastructure and the uncertainty of our foundations. From the perspective of urban management, it may be desirable for such incidents to be forgotten. Saiki presents this work as an attempt to retain such invisible facts and fading memories.
