About the Golden Eagle Flag

In 1916, the Fukuoka Nichi Nichi Shimbun, the predecessor of the current Nishinippon Shimbun, hosted the first Kyushu Student Martial Arts Tournament with the participation of 12 schools in Fukuoka Prefecture. The Kinshuki has established itself as one of the largest tournaments in the high school judo world. With a long history, now reaching its 96th year, the tournament has produced a succession of "gems of judo in the rough," including Yamashita Yasuhiro, Suzuki Keiji, Inoue Kosei, and Tani Ryoko, who later went on to become medalists on the world stage. The Kinshuki is now known as the "gateway to success on the world stage," and is attracting keen attention as the stage on which new stars of the Japanese judo world are born.

About the Gyokuryu Flag

In 1916, the Fukuoka Nichi Nichi Shimbun, the predecessor of the current Nishinippon Shimbun, was the organizer.

It was held for the first time under the name of "Kyushu Student Martial Arts Tournament" with the participation of 15 schools in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is considered one of the three major high school kendo tournaments, along with the National High School General Athletic Meet Kendo Competition (Inter-High) and the National High School Kendo Selection Tournament. The highlight is the young swordsmen demonstrating their outstanding skills by defeating opponents one after another in a five-person knockout match. There are many dramatic comebacks where the swordsmen are cornered, but then overtake and win, and many memorable matches have been produced, such as the general overtaking three or more opponents in the final to grab the large flag.
