ARTIST INTERVIEW
ABOUT ARTIST
Based on his creative philosophy of "portraits of taste," he expresses themes that combine humor, wit, and wordplay through order, balance, and variation. Characterized by a vivid, childlike sensibility based on pop art, his works reflect the ambiguous state of the self, in which opposing elements such as maturity and innocence, freedom and sensitivity coexist, as well as the contradictions and fluctuations within oneself, without processing them.
He works across a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, graphics, and video, and his practice transcends genres, from holding exhibitions to branding and collaborations with companies and brands.
His artworks are based on the theme of "souvenirs," and are based on the themes of cities, everyday life, and personal tastes. He uses the form of stickers, which he particularly likes, to create clear and fun artworks.
What is unique about this brand is that it positions stickers not simply as commercial products, but as "little works of art" that contain personality and a story.
He is a graphic design studio director, an artist, and also runs the Seoul-based art souvenir platform "Seoul Sticker Shop," which collaborates with brands.
Using pen and brush, he creates pictures of landscapes he encounters on his travels and in his daily life, adding imaginary characters and stories.
Although the artist himself was often misunderstood from a young age due to his unfriendly appearance, the characters that appear in his works live freely and joyfully in complex and colorful worlds.
Their natural, almost enviable appearances are like happiness itself. By mixing real and unrealistic elements, they sometimes satirize the world and sometimes depict human pain and warmth.
A variety of shapes and emotions are expressed through tiny units called pixels.
Human existence is a collection of minute fragments such as memories and emotions, and the sudden fluctuations in scenes and emotions that arise every day shape each individual.
Just as a "personal story" is made up of countless fragments, each experience and feeling overlaps like pixels, eventually forming a single picture of life. The artist carefully picks up this delicate accumulation and gives it form.
He walks through cities, observes them, and records the scenery that blends into everyday life through pen drawings and photographs. He is interested in the strangeness and humor in unremarkable scenery, and uses things that catch his eye or scenes that catch his eye as clues to depict the story of the city.
As a "City Trekker," the artist explores personal emotions and identity within the complex ecosystem of the city. The starting point of his work is to confirm his own emotions and discover their contours.
