YUGEN Gallery Opening Exhibition “Add”

April 6th (Sat) - April 21st (Sun), 2024

YUGEN Gallery will be holding a group exhibition called "Add" from Saturday, April 6th to Sunday, April 21st, 2024, to mark the opening of its Minami Aoyama Gallery.

The exhibition was planned and curated by Noma Hirotaka, and brings together five artists who are garnering attention not only in Japan but also overseas.

The exhibition will be themed on "Add," which means to add or supple, and will feature approximately 30 pieces, most of which are new works created by each artist for this exhibition.

The five artists participating in this exhibition are "Wataru Kimura," "SOMETA," "POKO," "KRM," and "DELUXESTO." These five diverse artists, with a variety of backgrounds including street culture, music, and fashion, will come together to create works that feature people and living things, though with different motifs.

This exhibition will be made up of works by each artist that are not just two-dimensionally imagined, but that have been created by “adding” new methods of expression to create works of a different dimension. These will inevitably color the new YUGEN Gallery, as if they were painting on a blank canvas.

Please come and see the new works that have been added to the new gallery.

Taking the complex emotions and instability of young people as his theme, he expresses humanity through facial expressions of hesitation and irritation. He believes that emotions that can be perceived as negative can sometimes cause people pain, but at the same time, they also give people a sense of being alive. His representative work, LOST BOYS, depicts just such a moment.

After 10 years of being in a band, I started to teach myself how to paint. I use the dolls that I always had with me while I was in the band as my motif. I draw directly on the designs and icons of printed matter that I find around me, and then I create canvas paintings based on those.
