Statement

八木秀人はアートディレクターとして数多くの広告を手がけながら、2010年にアーティストとしての活動も開始。2018年から「ART BY THE HAND EXHIBITION」と題した展覧会を東京、ニューヨークで2022年まで毎年開催するなど多岐にわたって活躍しています。

八木は、日常生活で起こった感情とそれを起点に深めた思考を表す文字をモチーフにした作品を発表しています。紙とスチレンボードを使った積層模型のような立体作品は、緻密な構造美とあるがままに見て楽しめるエンターテインメント性を両立し、現代アートの文脈でも高い評価を獲得。作品は現在までに北米地域を中心に34点がコレクションされています。

本展「A life in utopia」のテーマは、理想の世界のライフスタイル。八木が描くのは現実に立ちはだかる制約を乗り越え、自由でポジティブな価値観をもつ女性。まとうファッション、そこに溢れる明るいアトモスフィアに誰もが自分の「ユートピア」を見つけ実現できることが示唆されます。

「頭の中で考えている思考は必ず現実になる」との信念をもつ八木秀人。気鋭のクリエイターによって現れる理想郷にぜひご来場ください。

Hideto Yagi
Born in Tokorozawa, Saitama in 1975. Graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Tama Art University in 2001. Worked as an art director and graphic designer at advertising agency McCann Erickson and Dentsu, working for Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Uniqlo, Honda, and others. Awards received for his designs include the JAGDA New Designer Award, the NY ADC Award, the Gold and Silver Awards at the Cannes Lions, the Gold Award at the London International Advertising Festival, and the ADFEST Grand Prix. As an artist, he exhibited at the CUTTER ART OF OLFA exhibition in 2011, a campaign for stationery manufacturer STAEDTLER in 2012, and ART BY THE HAND EXHIBITION (Spiral Gallery, Tokyo) in 2017. In 2018, he founded the creative company Hand Inc.
