NIHONGA〇-en- Small work Exhibition

NIHONGA〇-en- Small work Exhibition "Profile"

2022.10.08(Sat) – 2022.10.13(Thu)

From October 8(Sat) to October 13 (Thur) 2022, YUGEN Gallery hosted Profile, a group exhibition of small works by the artistic group NIHONGA〇-en-.

NIHONGA〇-en- is a group of Japanese-style painters who gathered to share mutual provocation and boost their passion for the artform, transcending differences in expressive techniques and interpretations of Japanese painting, or Nihonga.

Their goal is to form bonds (en) with each other and work as one circle (also en), like a single stone creating ripples on the surface of the water, to allow them to interrogate contemporary society at large through Nihonga, and to create a new expression of "en."

NIHONGA〇-en-, which has held two highly acclaimed exhibitions in Kyoto—at the Museum of Kyoto and the Kyocera Museum of Art, Kyoto—is here holding its first exhibition in Tokyo, and as the title Profile suggests, looks to unravel the personality and style of each member.

18 artists are exhibiting: Jun Akiyama, Sadako Aritomi, Masako Kaneki, Meiko Kinoshita, Yoshiaki Goto, Shinji Sasaki, Yuki Taira, Chiko Takei, Shinnosuke Tazumi, Yoko Tezuka, Nanami Nakamura, Michihiro Namekawa, Yui Mizuno, Saori Yabuki, Yoko Yamamoto, Fumi Yokoyama, Shizuka Wakabayashi, and Yoko Watanabe (In Japanese name order)

We invite you to come and see their best works as they spread ripples across the world through the art of Nihonga.

This exhibition is the sixth at YUGEN Gallery curated by ONBEAT, the bilingual art magazine dedicated to exploring the art and culture of Japan and sharing it with the world.
