Kaeru Tsukino solo exhibition "LAYERED POP ART"

2022.11.05(Sat) – 2022.11.10(Thu)

Tsukino Kaeru's solo exhibition "LAYERED POP ART" will be held at YUGEN Gallery from Saturday, November 5th to Thursday, November 10th, 2022.

Tsukino Kaeru is an artist who visualizes the diversity of the world through semi-three-dimensional mixed media.

Tsukino Kaeru is a sickly boy who spent several years in a sanatorium with children with various problems. This experience inspired him to create works that are conscious of "diversity" and "fusion."

Many of the works are semi-three-dimensional mixed media pieces that are based on original digital illustrations, combining different materials such as metal, coating them with transparent acrylic resin, and further decorating them with rhinestones, etc. By fusing a variety of materials that each have their own appeal across genres, he creates a one-of-a-kind world full of color.

"While the rise of the internet and social media connects people and makes the world visible, it also has an aspect that accelerates the division between people who only focus on what they can see and what they want to see. Now, when not seeing what cannot be seen creates division and conflict, I want to make invisible hierarchies visible," says Tsukino, and her work will be a step towards raising awareness of the diversity of the world.

This exhibition will feature the "The world is beautiful" series, which depicts a "rich and beautiful world" woven with diverse elements using original digital illustrations, transparent resin, and mirrors, as well as the "Focus to layers" series, which Tsukino continues to create out of a desire to learn more about the world she exists in. By incorporating the gallery and the viewers' figures, a unique scene will be created.

Tsukino Kaeru continues to create works that make people feel that "the world is still beautiful" in this world that is infinitely multi-layered and at the same time has many problems. Please take a look at his "LAYERED POP ART" that will invite you into his colorful and nostalgic world.

This exhibition will be the ninth in a series curated by YUGEN Gallery by ONBEAT, a bilingual art information magazine that takes a fresh look at Japanese art and culture and spreads its appeal to the world.
