GEORGE HAYASHI EXHIBITION

GEORGE HAYASHI EXHIBITION "SURE SHOT"

2023.06.17(Sat) – 2023.06.29(Thu)

YUGEN Gallery will hold GEORGE HAYASHI's solo exhibition "SURE SHOT" from Saturday, June 17th to Thursday, June 29th, 2023.

New work with increased color intensity

George Hayashi is an artist who is fascinated by the instincts and ways of life of wild animals and presents works under the theme of "NOMAD HEART". From the 2022 solo exhibition "COSMIC DUAL FORCES" at YUGEN Gallery, which received a lot of response, the exhibition "SURE SHOT" will present about 15 new works full of energy.

In the previous solo exhibition, based on Feng Shui's "Lunar Taiji", he expressed the antagonism between the static energy that animals and nature fills inside and the dynamic energy that radiates to the outside. From there, the theme of this exhibition is the universality of energy.

George Hayashi combines street culture with ink painting, which he learned from his grandmother, Japanese painter Sugiku Hayashi. His style, which combines figurative paintings with animal motifs such as tigers and lions, and abstract expressions with powerful colors that make impressive use of red, has been highly acclaimed both at home and abroad.

Recently, Hayashi has been working while listening to commentary videos about the origin of the universe and natural science. I came up with this theme after learning about the actual state of energy in the natural world.

“Things such as color and light are manifestations of changes in energy, and I learned that even if the visible changes, the energy itself remains forever, and connected with my senses.”

radiate energy to the future

Like the energy of nature, which Hayashi has consistently used as a motif in his creations, the energy of art will remain with the viewer forever. ” in the title.

“I believe that if people take a good look at our paintings, the emotions and memories we put into them will change in various ways, and they will remain with us forever. I draw with the intention of

Every minute and every second of being born and living remains as energy for the future, and will be discovered by descendants in the distant future. It is with this image in mind that he creates his works in such a way as to "collect and radiate colored fragments of energy."

“The last solo exhibition was my first solo exhibition in three years, and although I put all my effort into it, looking back now, I felt that I wasn’t able to use colors to my heart’s content. Rather than questioning social meanings and themes, I want people to see what I have done to the fullest.

On May 5, 2023, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the state of emergency over the novel coronavirus. Risks remain, and although society as a whole continues to be vigilant, the fact that we have begun to move towards everyday life has also affected our creative motivation. In May, just before this exhibition, Hayashi also held exhibitions and special exhibitions one after another in Fujian Province, China and Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. It's called.

Painting is witnessing the birth of life

Hayashi, who has presented works that pay homage to famous paintings apart from the theme of each exhibition, will work on Guftav Klimt's "The Kiss" this time. It is said that this masterpiece depicts a surreal scene in which a man and a woman are guided by the energy of love and become one, and are united with the universe.

"It's not about Adam and Eve, but I feel like the beginning of the earth or the origin of the universe in the work "Kiss"."

For example, recent research results show that most of the Cretaceous microorganisms of 100 million years ago still survive in the stratum, and we can imagine the origin and circulation of a large number of life there.

Hayashi, who puts together small pieces of color with clear outlines and embeds the image of animals, also integrates the floating energy of life and depicts the surreal world that appears there. Here, the theme of transcending time and space and integrating the energies of all living things emerges clearly.

George Hayashi says, "The intensity of color has increased" compared to his previous works. I believe that painting is an energy phenomenon in which colors collide on the screen, and witnessing the birth of life forms there.
