Akira Fujimoto's solo exhibition "FREE RECOIL" will be held at YUGEN Gallery from Saturday, October 15th to Thursday, October 20th, 2022.
Akira Fujimoto is a socially conscious artist whose artistic endeavors focus on the theme of energy.
Akira Fujimoto has been involved in a variety of works and projects, including the art project "2021," which was launched to show the future of Japan beyond the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as well as works using marine debris left on the coast and a project working to preserve the memory of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
The title of this exhibition, "FREE RECOIL," refers to the recoil energy transmitted to the shooter when firing a rifle or other small firearm. Recoil energy can be calculated based on physical phenomena caused by various factors, but "free recoil" does not allow for calculations of the shooter's human factors, so it is not possible to grasp the actual recoil felt by the shooter.
The "One" series, which is the main focus of this exhibition, is an attempt to leave behind on the canvas the reactionary energy of a single action, but just like "Free Reaction," the human factors involved in creating the work cannot be calculated, and so it is impossible to grasp the final image of the work before starting it. It could also be said to be a metaphor for the uncertainty of modern society.
