"With the dawn, the self takes shape."

Ayaka Shirota

This work depicts a soul-like being eating a banana in a deep blue interior space. The picture plane, where reality and imagination intersect, reflects the fluctuations of the unfixed "self."
The banana motif is based on the artist's own experience of something he once disliked becoming his "favorite food" as a result of changes in his lifestyle. Is this a natural habit, or an adaptation to the situation? This ambiguity overlaps with the process by which people gradually acquire a place in their lives and find what they like.
The contrast between the dark interior and the light outside symbolizes the moment of dawn when the self takes shape, and the work depicts the quiet questions that lie hidden in self-formation.
