《The Power of LOVE》by SAORI KANDA

On November 15th, 2024, at an auction held at PIEROTH The EXPERIENCE, one of Japan's largest tasting events, the work "The Power of LOVE" by artist SAORI KANDA, who is represented by the contemporary art gallery YUGEN Gallery (operated by Gene Co., Ltd.), was purchased for 4.15 million yen.

This special auction pairs a rare 40-year-old vintage bottle of Romanée-Conti with "The Power of LOVE," and starts at 1.3 million yen.

As the audience gathered, Saori Kanda's art performance began, and in the middle of the performance, as the paintings were being produced one after another, the successful bidder, Mr. OIKAWA, spoke passionately of his desire to have the painting, saying, "I absolutely wanted to have this painting," and made the decision to purchase it. At the moment of winning the bid, he was so moved that he said, "I got goosebumps."

The special power of this work, which was created as part of an art performance, has touched the hearts of many people.

Saori Kanda announced that she would donate a portion of the winning bid to the Noto Peninsula reconstruction support charity through the Food Federation. She also stated, "Art opens the heart. There are things that art can do. Excitement, pride, and joy circulate," and expressed her intention to continue her activities with that spirit in mind.

Contemporary artist. Her work as a "dance artist," a unique ceremony art performer that involves various expressions such as sound, dance, clothing, fragrance, and food to satisfy the five senses, has been recognized as a performing art, and she has been invited to perform in various parts of the world, including China, Europe, the United States, Kazakhstan, and India. In 2020, she started a series of works with the themes of "Goddess Blossoming" and "Liberation of Sacred Eros." Her works incorporate the importance of facing "sex" as a source of life in the view of life and death, and loving oneself again. She has collaborated with many companies, including NISSAN, Canon, and ALFA ROMEO. Her previous solo exhibitions include the Okaya Museum of Art and Archaeology (2023) and NIPPON GALLERY in New York (2023).
