Statement

Universal beauty revealed through traditional handicrafts while standing still in the face of the absurdity of nature

Hasui encountered Kinzan Kiln, a 120-year-old Kutani ware kiln in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and photographed ceramic works by master craftsmen that were destroyed by an earthquake in 2024. What he captured was the universal beauty that emerges in traditional handicrafts while standing still in the face of the absurdity of nature.

The photographed cracked piece still had the same aura of beauty as it had before it was destroyed.

The patterns and designs are drawn with incredible precision in every detail.

With its gold color scheme, it exudes unchanging presence and beauty.

The passion for the works that our predecessors created with so much care and attention will never fade.

No, even if it ends up decaying.

This exhibition will display Hasui's unique and vivid works that depict the laws of nature.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of works in this exhibition will be donated to reconstruction support. In addition, it has been decided that the exhibition will travel to YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA (Stage 1 Nishidori 4F, 2-1-4 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture) in March 2025.

About sales of artworks

At the same time as the exhibition, the works will be available to view and purchase on the YUGEN Gallery official online store.
