Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I strive to depict images that exist in a stage prior to aiming for a completed result, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally significant.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when I perceive the reality before my eyes as inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness itself that attempts to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time and recognition process involved in an object taking shape as a form have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
