untitled

Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images at a stage prior to aiming for a finished result, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally significant.
My work begins with images that arise in moments when I perceive the reality before me as inseparable from thought and language. I treat the very consciousness that tries to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where the image merges with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, in parallel with painting, I have also started working with ceramics. Moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, the time it takes for an object to emerge as a shape and the process of perception have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
