Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images that exist prior to the pursuit of a finalized outcome, and my approach is characterized by treating the visible and invisible as equally significant.
I start with images that arise at moments when I perceive the immediate reality as inseparable from thought and language. I also treat the consciousness itself that attempts to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I aim to generate paintings where images become integrated with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, in parallel with painting, I have also begun working with ceramics. Moving between two and three dimensions, the time and recognition processes involved in an object manifesting as a form have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
