I am an artist based in Kyoto, and my primary focus has been painting. My work attempts to depict images in a state prior to aiming for a completed result, characterized by treating the visible and invisible as equally significant.
My starting point is an image that arises at the moment when the reality before my eyes feels inseparable from thought and language. I also treat the consciousness itself that attempts to express this image as being similar to external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly transferred onto the canvas. In recent years, in parallel with painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for an object to emerge as a form, and the process of perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
