Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting to date. I attempt to depict images that are in a pre-completion stage, before aiming for a finished result, and my approach is characterized by treating the visible and invisible as equally significant.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when reality before my eyes feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness itself that attempts to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly transferred onto the canvas. In recent years, I have also begun working with ceramics alongside painting, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for an object to materialize as a form, and the process of perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
