Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting to date. I attempt to depict images that exist in a stage prior to aiming for a completed result, characterized by an approach that views visible and invisible elements as equally significant.
My work starts with images that arise from moments when I perceive the reality before me as inseparable from thought and language. The very consciousness that attempts to express these images is treated in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, which are then directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time it takes for an object to materialize as a form, and the process of perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
