untitled
Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images that are in a pre-conceptual stage, before they are fully formed, and my work is characterized by treating the visible and invisible as equally significant.
I start with images that arise in moments when I feel that immediate reality is inseparable from thought and language. I then treat the very consciousness that tries to express these images as being on par with external reality. Through this process, I aim to create paintings where images become one with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly transferred onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for a subject to emerge as a form, and the process of its perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
