Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images at a stage prior to aiming for a completed result, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally significant.
I start with images that arise in moments when I feel that the reality before me is inseparable from thought and language. I treat the very consciousness that attempts to express these images as being on par with external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly fixing them onto the canvas. In recent years, I have also begun working with ceramics alongside painting, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for an object to emerge as a form and the process of perception have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
