Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images at a stage prior to aiming for a completed result, characterized by an approach that views the visible and invisible as equally significant.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when the reality before my eyes feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness that tries to express these images as equally real as the external world. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly fixing them onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for a subject to appear as a form and the process of perception have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
