Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. My work attempts to depict images in a stage prior to aspiring to a finished result, characterized by an approach that views the visible and invisible as equally significant.
I start with images that arise at moments when I perceive the reality before me to be inseparable from thought and language, and I treat the very consciousness that attempts to express these images as external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time it takes for an object to emerge as a form and the process of its perception have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
