Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images that are in a stage prior to aspiring to a perfected outcome, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally important.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when the reality before us feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness that tries to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, and these are directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time and cognitive process until an object appears as a form have become crucial elements in Matsuda's current practice.
