YUGEN Gallery, a contemporary art gallery operated by Gene Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroaki Hayashida; hereinafter referred to as "our company"), participated as a supporting company in the 64th Hakata Dontaku Port Festival, held in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th, 2025.
The Hakata Dontaku Port Festival has its roots in the Hakata Matsubayashi festival, which has a history of over 830 years, and has developed into one of Japan's leading citizen festivals, attracting over 2 million people in modern times. It is a symbolic event that brings together local residents, businesses, and municipalities to celebrate Hakata's traditions and culture and connect them to the future.
YUGEN Gallery, which has been based in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo and has continued to promote contemporary art, opened a new gallery, "YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA," in Daimyo, Fukuoka in September 2024, and has begun full-scale activities in the Kyushu area.
We decided to sponsor this festival out of our desire to create an opportunity for exchange and dialogue centered on art in this region, where cultural background remains strong.
YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA will continue to promote art activities rooted in the city of Fukuoka through exhibitions, workshops, local events and more.
We will also actively promote exchanges with artists and create spaces for creativity, striving to create an environment where more people can experience and enjoy art.
