YUGEN Gallery hosted the Sekisai solo exhibition Playful Colors from Saturday, June 25 through Thursday, June 30.

Specifically, they have been exploring the technology of "coloring as a code," which is a sophisticated way of handling digital data and applying three-dimensional coloring. In their search for a form and color expression that could only be achieved through 3D printing, they succeeded in creating the visual effect of colors that change depending on the viewing angle by arranging subtle pleats on three-dimensional surfaces. This lets them provide audiences with a new visual experience that feels as if they are looking at a CG image, even though they are looking at a real object.

Sekisai's goal is not only to create new objects using cutting-edge 3D printer technology, but also to weave in stories of this new age by examining the innovative ways of production behind them.

This exhibition, Sekisai's first solo gallery show, will feature a number of Playful Colors works that utilize the complex color changes that have been born of their explorations to date.
