Sekisai solo exhibition "PLAYFUL COLORS"

Saturday, June 25, 2022 - Thursday, June 30, 2022

YUGEN Gallery will be holding Tsumikisai's solo exhibition "PLAYFUL COLORS" from Saturday, June 25th to Thursday, June 30th, 2022.

Tsumikisai is a design fabrication studio that explores new forms of color expression through the development of digital modeling methods such as 3D printing.

Specifically, they have been exploring a technique called "Coloring as a code," which uses advanced digital data to create three-dimensional coloring. In their search for forms and color expressions that can only be achieved with 3D printing, they have succeeded in creating a visual effect in which the color changes depending on the viewing angle by arranging delicate pleats on the three-dimensional surface. This allows them to provide the audience with a new visual experience that makes them feel as if they are looking at CG, even though they are looking at the real thing.

Tsumikisai aims not only to create new "things" using the cutting-edge technology of 3D printers, but also to explore the new ways of "manufacturing" behind them and weave new "stories" that are appropriate for the current era.

This exhibition, Tsumikisai's first solo gallery exhibition, will feature a number of "Playful Colors" works that utilize complex color-changing expressions, the fruits of his explorations to date.

Please come and see the mysterious visual phenomenon that emerges as digital data and materials are interwoven, shapes and colors blend together.

This exhibition will be the fourth in a series curated by YUGEN Gallery by ONBEAT, a bilingual art information magazine that takes a fresh look at Japanese art and culture and spreads its appeal to the world.
