ki/u #145
A work introduced as a collaborative project between YUGEN Gallery's exhibition at "IWATAYA Life with Art 2026" and the three-person exhibition "After Words, Outside Meaning" currently held at YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA. Focusing on how the shapes and meanings of characters alter the perception of objects and light, it explores a new relationship between language and imagery.
Yoichiro Otani creates visual poetry through characters, discovering new connections between the shapes, sounds, and meanings of kanji. While the characters accumulated on the canvas serve as symbols that convey meaning, they transform into images reminiscent of landscapes or the presence of nature, eliciting a sense of fluctuation that arises between looking and reading.
