Collection of works: "Portrait in Collage"

Yoh Nagao

This is the first collection of works (140 pages in total) by internationally active collage artist Yoh Nagao, featuring 62 works created over the 10 years from 2013 to 2023 under the theme "We are the indigenous people of the future."

This book includes special contributions from overseas galleries, photos taken by Nagao himself on his travels around the world, and commentary on his works. It also features shots of large-scale murals he has created both in Japan and overseas, as well as scenes from his studio, making it an enjoyable art documentary with a global field.

◎Highlights of this book◎
● Yoh Nagao combines the techniques of collage and painting to produce works of intricate and almost overly aesthetic imagery. His works address issues that will have a lasting impact on the future of humanity, such as mass consumerism and environmental destruction, in an age of increasing media influence and resource overuse, and offer poignant reflections on our responsibility to the future. - Hall Felker, Director of Mirus Gallery (Excerpt from "Maximalist Narratives" p.13 of "Portrait in Collage")
●Nagao's works, which are born from the unique perspective of someone with Ainu roots, are based on the ethnic cultures he has experienced while traveling around the world. They are made by collaging different materials such as clippings from fashion magazines and advertisements, cloth and shoelaces, and then layering them with acrylic paints.
-Includes footage of the studio, production scenes, and valuable rough sketch notes.
