A blessing turns into poison
Keita Ando's work is characterized by depicting moments in which the boundary between life and death fluctuates, through images in which the body and the landscape seem to blend together. In this exhibition, "Scorching Heat and Decay / Freezing Cold and Germination," he uses fossil-like bird specimens and line drawings reminiscent of mountain ranges and blood vessels to overlap different periods of life: growth and decay, freezing and preservation. This expression brings to light a sense of "the golden mean" that is not biased toward either life or death, and by juxtaposing new works with works by contemporary artists, he presents painting as a form of expression that is constantly changing in relation to others.
