untitled

Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. My work attempts to depict images in a stage prior to a fully realized outcome, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally significant.
I start with images that arise in moments when I feel the reality before me is inseparable from thought and language. The very consciousness that attempts to express these images is treated in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where images merge with bodily movements and intentions, becoming directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time it takes for an object to materialize as a form and the process of its recognition have become crucial elements in Matsuda's current practice.
