Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. I attempt to depict images at an earlier stage than the pursuit of a finished result, characterized by an approach that treats visible and invisible elements as equally significant.
I start with images that emerge at moments when the reality before me feels inseparable from thought and language, and I treat the very consciousness that tries to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly fixing them onto the canvas. In recent years, in addition to painting, I have also begun working with ceramics. Moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, the time it takes for an object to materialize as a form and the process of perception have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
