Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting to date. I attempt to depict images that are in a stage prior to aspiring to a perfected outcome, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equally significant.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when the reality before us feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness itself that attempts to express these images as equally significant to external reality. Through this process, I aim to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly transferring them onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time and cognitive processes involved in an object taking shape have become crucial elements in Matsuda's current practice.
