Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting to date. I attempt to depict images that are in a stage prior to aspiring to a finished result, characterized by an approach that treats the visible and invisible as equal.
Starting from images that arise at moments when the reality before us feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness itself that seeks to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly settling onto the canvas. In recent years, in parallel with painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The time it takes for an object to emerge as a form, and the process of perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
