Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting. My work attempts to depict images in a stage prior to aspiring to a finished result, characterized by an approach that treats visible and invisible elements as equally significant.
Starting with images that arise in moments when the reality before me feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the consciousness that tries to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I aim to generate paintings where images integrate with bodily movements and intentions, directly settling onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two and three dimensions. The time it takes for a subject to emerge as a form, and the process of perception, have become important elements in Matsuda's current practice.
