Based in Kyoto, I have primarily focused on painting to date. I attempt to depict images that exist prior to the pursuit of a perfected outcome, characterized by an approach that treats visible and invisible elements as equally important.
Starting from images that emerge at moments when reality feels inseparable from thought and language, I treat the very consciousness attempting to express these images in the same way as external reality. Through this process, I try to create paintings where images become integrated with bodily movements and intentions, which are then directly fixed onto the canvas. In recent years, alongside painting, I have also begun working with ceramics, moving between two and three dimensions. The time and cognitive process involved in an object taking form have become crucial elements in Matsuda's current practice.
