Have no fear of transformation
The "Nanao" series is a character created by the artist himself. Using traditional woodcarving techniques, the body is made of camphor wood and the head is made of cypress, expressing the depth and richness that comes from the difference in materials. Another distinctive feature is the u-ha structure, which increases stability and accentuates the three-dimensional effect. The dinosaur-like pajama part is roughly shaped with a chainsaw, and while making use of the natural texture of the wood, the details are carefully finished with a carving knife and sandpaper. The acrylic paints retain the warmth of the wood and symbolize the strength to accept change without fear.
In this work, by superimposing fairy tale elements onto the primitive symbol of the "violent dragon," the artist deconstructs evolutionary imagery and presents a worldview that is both soft and solid.
