This work is a wooden sculpture of the bird-headed character Nanao from the "Nanao" series, who was created by the artist himself. She boards an airplane with her cat and sets off on a journey.
KAKA creates his works with the feeling that wood and objects possess a kind of consciousness. In the process of carving wood, he comes into contact with the activities of life that are beyond human consciousness or control, and the flow of time that the material contains. KAKA's works are imbued with the feeling of a fleeting "now" that will never be repeated, and the act of observing the preciousness of passing time and attempting to preserve that moment in form emerges as a sculpture.
The image of Nanao setting out on a journey is a symbol of moving towards the unknown, but also of embracing the irreplaceable time that is the present.
