*From July 2025, the artist name will be " The name has been changed to "MASUMI FRAGIO" .

At the age of 16, he discovered the saxophone, which led him to study jazz and begin his musical career. At the same time, he began painting on his own. He found the expression of combining colors and weaving and overlapping lines to be a different kind of stimulating and liberating than music, and he became absorbed in painting.

Hoping to make a name for himself in the world of painting, he traveled alone to the United States in 2013. He began his work in a room in New York that had been owned by Andy Warhol and formerly occupied by Jean-Michel Basquiat, turning it into a studio. Just one month after arriving in the United States, he held a solo exhibition.

"I feel that the excitement of my blood when I move my brush and apply color is similar to that of playing the saxophone. I am convinced that life is burning within me, just like when I paint a line or paint a color. I have learned a lot from music when it comes to my style as an artist," he says. The colors that are released in an electrifying wavering of energy, and the lines that are drawn like unwavering melodies, give the impression of music.

After that, FRAGIO moved to Berlin, Germany, and traveled throughout Europe and Asia, where his creative work has always been deeply connected to travel. His paintings and music are inspired by the heart-opening experiences he has had with animals living in nature and the people of the places he has visited. Whether abstract or concrete, he resists the tendency to turn to information, putting what is just before it is put into words onto the canvas...

In this way, music and travel experiences become the source of my creativity, from which I depict the intangible life and love, aiming to communicate through my work beyond words and symbols.

FRAGIO also gave birth in 2020, and says that the mystery of life has given her new life. Please enjoy her works, which stir the viewer's sensibilities like the sound of a saxophone blow.
