The contemporary art gallery "YUGEN Gallery" (Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo/operated by Gene Co., Ltd.) will be giving away original booklets to visitors to the Keiichi Baba exhibition "Initiation of Death and Rebirth," which runs from Friday, November 8th to Sunday, November 25th, 2024.
This exhibition features Keiichi Baba's latest series, "RESIN: Death and Rebirth," which he paints using innovative techniques using cardboard and resin. The works, which tell the story of his recovery from the pain of depression, are imbued with the power of life through destruction, rebirth, and reconstruction.
In conjunction with this exhibition, we have produced an original 16-page booklet that includes an in-depth interview with Baba about his life and the background of his work, along with explanations of his works. This booklet will be presented to visitors who complete a survey.
This booklet, except for the interview, is written in both Japanese and English, so that art fans overseas can also enjoy the world of Baba's work. It unravels the artist's creative process, conveys the profound meaning behind his work, and provides an opportunity to reexamine Baba's work from a new perspective.
In addition to the approximately 30 pieces on display, a video recording the production process will be screened, inviting the viewer into Keiichi Baba's inner world. Previously, he expressed the pain of the socially vulnerable in his work, but now he sublimates his own pain into a story, depicting the process of confronting his own pain with the skull and goddess, which symbolize death and rebirth.
These works shed light on depression, which the World Health Organization (WHO) has pointed out will become a major disease burden by 2030, and join the journey to overcoming pain. Come and experience the ray of light emanating from Baba's work and feel the story of a new life.
