“Smash Hits 02” from ONBEAT

"Smash Hits 02" from ONBEAT will be held at YUGEN Gallery from Saturday, October 22nd to Thursday, November 3rd, 2022.

This exhibition is a popular project run by the bilingual art information magazine ONBEAT entitled "Upcoming Artists Recommended by ONBEAT", which has been moved to YUGEN Gallery in Shibuya.

The exhibiting artists for the first period (October 22nd to October 27th) are Maya Koga, Hiroki Nakano, Kiyo Oota, Masashi Sasaki, Chika Takei, Tartarus Japan, Daiki Tsutamoto, Yu Uchida, Yujiro Ueno, and Yukyo Yamamoto. For the second period (October 29th to November 3rd), Hiroyoshi Asaka, Tomokazu Fujita, Yudai Kitaura, Hayato Koga, Ryosuke Misawa, Haruhi Muta, Kazumasa Seino, and Aya Tsumiki.

This exhibition will bring together their finest works, beloved not only by readers but also by collectors.

ONBEAT, which takes a fresh look at Japanese art and culture and spreads its appeal to the world, is curating its eighth exhibition at YUGEN Gallery, "Smash Hits 02 from ONBEAT."

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1977. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design (now Kyoto University of the Arts). He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including the Takashimaya Traveling Exhibition (Tokyo, Osaka) in 2009, 2012, 2017, and 2020, Seizan Gallery (Tokyo) in 2014, and Isetan Shinjuku (Tokyo) in 2015. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including "Collect" (Micheko Gallery / Germany) in 2016, "VOLTA Basel" (Switzerland), "PULSE Art Fair" (Miami), "Art Central" (Hong Kong), and "Break Zen'ya Ten" (Roppongi Hills A/D Gallery / Tokyo) in 2019. His works are collected by Osaka City, Ginza British House (Tokyo), and Oharayama Shrine (Fukuoka).

Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1976. Graduated from the Woodworking Department of Hida International Craft Academy in 1997. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including "Stories Born from Wood - A Collaborative Exhibition by Contemporary Artist Tomokazu Fujita and Artists in the Prefectural Museum of Art Collection" (Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art) in 2016, "Formal Beauty of Wood" (Chiba Gin Himawari Gallery) in 2017, "Man in the Castle" (Nezu Gallery Maruhi) in 2018, "Desktop Honor" (Gallery MUMON) in 2019, and "Fusangokuni" (Nihonbashi Takashimaya) in 2020. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including "TENGAI 2.0" (Roppongi Hills A/D Gallery) in 2015. He was selected for the Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Award in 2021.

Born in Nara Prefecture in 1994. Graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts, majoring in lacquerware in 2020. Currently enrolled as a trainee in the Nara Traditional Crafts Successor Development Program. Participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs in 2021, including the "Kyoto City University of Arts Transmit Program" (Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery @KCUA), "SICF21 Winners Exhibition" (Spiral), and "3331 Art Fair" (Arts Chiyoda 3331). Received numerous awards, including the Graduate School Mayor's Award at the 2020 Kyoto City University of Arts Graduation Exhibition. Participated in the 2021 lacquer sculpture project for Jakuchu Ito's "Skull" and Toshiki Matsumoto's "Frog" at Hozoji Temple.

Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1983. Graduated from the Art Department of Bunka Gakuin in 2008. Has held numerous solo exhibitions. Has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including "Shibuya Style vol.12" (Seibu Shibuya) in 2018, "reflection" (Seibu Shibuya) in 2019, "y-Generation" (Seibu Shibuya) from 2020 to 2021, and "Trans⇔Form-Transformation Shiteyukukatachi" (Nihonbashi Takashimaya) in 2022. Received the Mori Yoshiko Award at Geisai Museum #2 in 2008, and was selected for the Mitsubishi Corporation Art Gate Program from 2008 to 2010. Was responsible for the cover illustration of "The Wise Man Chooses Trust, Not Happiness" (by Ryu Murakami).

Born in Fukui Prefecture in 1992. Graduated from the Department of Visual and Physical Studies, College of Contemporary Psychology, Rikkyo University. After working as a photographer, he began working full-time as a contemporary artist in 2020. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Shibuya Tsutaya (Tokyo), Hankyu Men's Tokyo, Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore (Tokyo), and Imperial Hotel Plaza Tokyo. In 2021, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "Shibuya Style vol.15" (Seibu Shibuya), "Grand Pas de Deux" (Tokyu Plaza Ginza), and "Kibi" (What Cafe). In 2021, he created a mural for the entrance of Fujii Daimaru (Kyoto). In 2022, he created a mural for JR Ueno Station at "Yamanote Line Museum x Ryosuke Misawa_Art Wall at Ueno Sta."

Born in Tokyo in 1981. Graduated from the Fine Art Department of Goldsmiths, University of London in 2008 and the Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Training Institute in 2012. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including "Zuikei Jiuen" (Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store) in 2018, the exhibition commemorating the publication of his collection of works "Vessels of Beauty" (Maruzen Nihonbashi Store) in 2020, and "Vessels of the Eye" (Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore) in 2021. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including "We who saw signs" (Singapore) in 2011, "Dancing Kutani" (Taiwan) in 2019, and the Nakamura Takuo/Muta Haruhi two-person exhibition "Ceramics, Deviation, Living Room" (Wako, Ginza) in 2021.

Has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including "SICF22" (Spiral), "Gift" (What Cafe), "Art Kaiho-ku Eats Nihonbashi" (Tokyo) in 2021, "Power of Art" (Daimaru Umeda store) and "Art Nagoya" in 2022. Received the Special Prize at the Akari Image 2020 Light Design Competition and the 2021 Tagboat Award Jury Special Prize, Tenmyouya Hisashi Award.

The unit originated from the "research into special color expression using 3D printing" conducted at the Tanaka Hiroya Laboratory at Keio University, and was founded with the aim of social implementation when Ohinata, the representative of the research group, graduated from graduate school. Founded in 2021. Participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the "Furoshiki Tokyo Exhibition" (Edo Sakuradori Underground Walkway, etc.) in 2019 and "SICF22" (Spiral / Tokyo) in 2022. Has won numerous awards, including the 2020 Toyama Design Competition Grand Prix and the CS Design Award Student Division Gold Prize.

Received the Ikegami Yoji Award at the New Generation Art Awards in 2019, the President's Award at the Kobe Design University Graduation Exhibition Chaos in 2020, the IAG Awards Encouragement Award, the Hakkendou Gallery Award, and the Hayashi Chimasa Award at SICF21.

Has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including the 2019 "LA Art Show," "Infinity Japan2019 Contemporary Art Show," "Asia Contemporary Art Show," and the 2020 "Affordable Art Fair Milan."

He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Special Exhibition Room in 2018, Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore (Tokyo) and Tokyo American Club Frederick Harris Gallery in 2021. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs. He was selected for the Tuner Award in 2019-2020. He has received numerous awards, including the Liquitex Award University Division in the Liquitex The Challenge in 2020 and the Early Morning Award (work purchased) at the 69th Tokyo University of the Arts Graduation and Completion Works Exhibition in 2021. He was a scholarship recipient of the Mitsubishi Corporation Art Gate Program in 2019.

Participates in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs. Received numerous awards including the Terada Art Award Excellence Award in 2014, the Encouragement Award and Kyoto Mayor's Award at the Kyoto New Japanese Painting Exhibition in 2020, and the Runner-up Prize at the 8th Triennale Toyohashi Hoshino Shingo Award Exhibition in 2021.
