Atsuki Settangeli's solo exhibition "CHARACTERS" will be held at YUGEN Gallery from Saturday, October 1st to Thursday, October 6th, 2022.
Atsuki Settangeri is a painter who depicts the worldview of Bushido under the theme of "Neo-Ism," which aims to fuse the classic and the modern.
When Settangeli visited Yoko Ono at the Dakota in New York in 2010, she advised him to depict the world of "Bushido," a code of conduct for which Japan is world-famous. This prompted him to create the series "Samurai Spirit," which centers around unusual helmets.
It has always been avant-garde figures with eccentric personalities who have brought about change in every era. This series, which depicts the "Idiosyncratic Spirit" of such people, has been highly praised mainly in New York and has been collected by royalty, aristocrats, ambassadors, and celebrities from all over the world.
This time, as part of "The Idiosyncratic Spirit," we will be exhibiting over 20 new pieces that combine six elements: classic and modern, Western and Eastern, and design and traditional Japanese culture.
Be sure to check out "CHARACTERS," in which Settangeli, who takes "Neo-Ism" as his theme, portrays unconventional and unique characters from a "Japanese-in-Western" perspective.
This exhibition will be the fifth in a series curated by YUGEN Gallery by ONBEAT, a bilingual art information magazine that takes a fresh look at Japanese art and culture and spreads its appeal to the world.
